How Can You Apply For an Indian Passport Online?

Like you require a license to drive a two-wheeler or four-wheeler or any sort of vehicle, same for flying to another country except Nepal, you need a license. A passport is a license for the person and a must-have document nowadays for traveling abroad for tourism, education, medical attendance, family visit, etc.

 

In recent years, the rising demand for passports and passport-related services has resulted from fast economic expansion and the spread of globalization. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) launched an online Passport Seva in 2010 for the convenience of the public.

 

A valid passport or travel document is required for all Indian nationals who wish to leave the country, and if you don’t have your passport, you can visit the passport center or apply for a passport online. The Government of India may issue various passports and travel documents under the Passports Act 1967, including Ordinary Passports, Diplomatic Passports, Official Passports, Emergency Certificates, and Certificates of Identity.

 

Steps for applying for the passport online:-

  1. Log in to the Passport Portal India website.
  2. Enter the correct details in the Indian passport application and select the passport agency you want to visit. After you’ve filled in all of the information, you’ll need to input the Captcha characters and then click the Register button below.
  3. Now use the registered ID to log in to the Portal.
  4. After that, Click on the applying for fresh passport/re-issue of the passport.
  5. Fill in the details there correctly appear on the screen and click submit button.
  6. Before clicking on pay, you can calculate an online passport service fee through an online fee calculator.
  7. After that, click on Schedule Appointment and Pay Fees to complete the process. These will allow you to schedule an appointment, for which you will be charged a fee.
  8. Click the Print Application
  9. Receipt to print your appointment receipt.
  10. Your appointment information will also be sent to your cell phone through SMS.
  11. Now, you can visit the Passport Seva Kendra to print the appointment letter, or you can show the SMS you have received on your mobile. (Note:- Kindly carry the original document which is required for the verification.)

 

Following are the documents needed to apply for a new passport, whether you are an adult or a minor:

For Adult,

  • Aadhar Card
  • Pan Card
  • Parents Passport Copy
  • Driving License
  • Employer Certificate
  • Proof of Gas Connection
  • Birth Certificate
  • Voter’s ID, Bank Passbook
  • Spouse’s passport copy
  • Utility Bill
  • Rent Agreement
  • Ration Card
  • 10th Certificate
  • 12th Certificate
  • Higher Educational Pass Certificate
  • School leaving Certificate
  • Student ID Card issued by Govt. Recognized Institutions
  • Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy
  • Matriculation Certificate
  • Income Tax assessment order
  • Landline or Postpaid mobile bill

For Minor,

  • Parents self-attested copies of the passport
  • Proof of current address
  • Photo of passbook of running bank account
  • Birth certificate
  • Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy
  • Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar
  • PAN Card
  • School leaving certificate/ Secondary school leaving Certificate
  • School or university 10th standard mark’s card

 

Renewal Of Passport:-

If you have a passport that will expire soon, in that case, renewal of passport is done. On the Passport Seva Kendra website, there is a “Document Advisor” for the Passport renewal. As per the type of passport and age of the applicant, the document will differ. The general document which is required for renewal are as follow:-

  • Original old passport, Self-attested copies of the first two and last two pages of the passport
  • Self-attested copy of the page of notes, if any, presented by the Passport Issuing Authority & ECR/Non-ECR page
  • Self-attested copy of the validity extension page, if any, regarding the Short Validity Passport (SVP)
  • Proof of papers that reject the cause of issuance of Short Validity Passport (SVP)

 

Difference between the Re-issue of Passport and Renewal of Passport:-

Re-issue of the Passport is done when certain events happen, such as Lost Passport, Stolen Passport, etc. While in renewal, the existing passport has been given as the renewal passport.

Re-issue of the Passport is done when certain events happen, such as Lost Passport, Stolen Passport, Exhausting Passport, Damaged Passport or Soiled Passport, Changes in Personal Details, etc. For Re-Issuing of the Passport, an individual have to submit certain documents along with the application form. Below are the documents required for the re-issue of the passport:-

  • Identity Proof
  • Age Proof
  • Address Proof
  • Old Original Passport
  • Self Assessed the first and last page of the booklet
  • ECR/Non-ECR page
  • Page of validity extension (if any)
  • Page of observation (if any) made by Passport Issuing Authority
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC)
  • Prior Intimation Letter (PI)
  • Affidavit stating how and where the passport got lost/damaged
  • Police statement in original format

 

Note: Original documents must be submitted at the counter; the documents will be returned after verification.
