Where to Stay: London’s Best Neighbourhoods for Family Accommodation
Planning a trip to London with the family in itself can be an overwhelming experience, as all the considerations, such as prebooking events and activities, but also finding a space that is in a safe area, close to transport links and has all of the facilities you need for your family to feel comfortable.
There are several family safe neighbourhoods around London centre that are extremely warm, welcoming, and have a range of accommodation options that suit a range of needs and family stages and sizes.
Central London
Some families prefer to avoid public transport with little ones, so if you want to stay more central, here are a few spots to stay.
South Kensington / Knightsbridge
This area is an upmarket and very safe area for families, surrounded by leafy squares and free museums. It’s also very close to the popular Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.

Covent Garden
This is more of a lively spot and more suitable for parents with slightly older children or young teenagers. This spot is great for shopping, eating and home to some great events.

Out of The Centre
Some families prefer to be away from the crazy London crowds, especially when you have a family that enjoys walking around the local area and parks for the kids to run around. Staying further out means you are getting more space to do certain activities, but also keeps the option of travelling to the centre very easily.
Romford
A friendly little town that is home to a train station that takes you right into London. The trains tend to be less crazy than tube stations, as you can book seats, which makes travelling with little ones a lot easier. It’s also nice for families to have the option of being in the busy central London, and others enjoy a new local town such as Romford, which offers a shopping centre in Essex called The Liberty.

Richmond / Teddington / Kew
Right near the riverside, and offers gorgeous views but also a very safe place for families to stay. Families that want more green space tend to choose this area, which is also right near the Waterloo train station.
Where to stay includes The Orange Tree, Richmond Hill Hotel, The Mitre Hotel and Room2, all of which are great spots and offer something unique and convenient for a range of families. For example, the orange tree and the Mitre Hotel are both luxury options but offer their own unique flair, such as good views and location convenience.
Greenwich
The vibe of Greenwich can easily be summarised as a historic maritime village with a huge park, museums, and a local market. This leaves plenty for families to do without going to the city; however, it does have two options if you want to venture in, including the DLR light train and Thameslink train (fast train).
