During the decades, the old continent have become popular for its numerous tourist destinations. People from all over the world come to Europe to explore its beauty.

In terms of winter sports, our continent offers a great number of travel destinations. Some of them are so fancy and luxurious that only a few people have the opportunity to visit them. On the other hand, there are hundreds of affordable travel destinations, where every winter-sports lover can spend their Christmas holidays. Here is a short list of some of the best ski resorts in Europe.

One of the biggest resorts in the Swiss Alps, Vernier, is a favorite ski destination for a great number of celebrities. It is situated in the Valais – the largest resort area in Switzerland. The population is about 2800 people but sometimes, especially during the winter season, the number can reach up to 35 000. The altitude of the trails is between 1500 and 3330 metres and the total length is 410 km. Also, because of the high altitude, the  trails are covered with snow during the whole season.

The best part is that if you want to spend your holiday there, you don’t need to be a millionaire  or a professional skier. Val d’Isere, France

Here is another very popular ski resort. Except for its romantic atmosphere and love songs, France is also famous for being one of the most preferred ski destinations not only in Europe, but in the world. Val d’Isere is a small and picturesque town in the very heart of the country. Some people call this resort ‘The most beautiful ski area in the world’. Once again, because of the high altitude, the resort attracts tourists during the whole year.

Finland the the perfect choice for a winter destination. Kuusamo is the southermost resort in Lapland and its name means the Moon city. The climate conditions are not as harsh as in the rest of the region. This fascinating resort is a wonderful mixture of amazing nature, majestic mountains, scenic rivers and crystal lakes.

Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy

People call it ‘The Queen of the Dolomites‘. This magnificent resort is located near to the Austrian border, at about 160km from Venice. It is the most luxurious ski resort in Italy, attracting tourists from  all over the globe. However, it is not very easy to get there. The nearest airports are in Venice, Treviso and Verona. The other options are to take a bus from Milano or to travel by car.

St. Anton, Austria

We get back to Austria to offer you the last ski resort in our list. St. Anton is an incredible ski destination. It offers over 200 miles of ski trails and magnificent views.  It is pretty affordable – one night in a double hotel room there will cost you no more than $150. The price includes breakfast, spa, saunas etc. However, during the winter season, the number of tourists increases and the prices can get a bit higher.
